While I really do want to implement the getting started ideas from the reading, I have always had an idea as to how I would ideally start off my school year. I really like the idea of having a “pow wow” with my students where we create two lists: one that lists what I would like out of my students, and one that lists what the students would like out of me as a teacher. These expectations are something that I think should be discussed openly so that I know what my students want in a teacher figure, and so that my students are aware of how I expect them to behave, etc.
